Apply here until January 26th. Applications Closed.

Clear communication with your K9 and practical and thoughtful reward sequences are a powerful tool in your training tool box!

We will cover:

  • strategies to create successful shaping sessions’
  • reinforcement cues/multiple marker systems
  • reinforcement location/reward placement

Working spots (8) will work with their dogs on marker systems/reinforcement cues and reinforcement strategies individual to their dog and its job/task.

Audit spots (4) will be included in this process and will participate in the practical exercises!

This seminar is focused on Detection dogs/Search and Rescue dogs but we will not work odor at this seminar. We will work on tools and exercises that are crucial for solid foundations and advanced odor/SAR work.

This seminar will be taught by Jo Huxel who is a professional dog trainer and currently handles her deployable dogs that are German Shorthair Pointers: Bax (Human Remains Detection) and her 2 Live-Find dogs, Cassia and Rumo. She is a founding member and serves on the Board of Northwest Human Remains Detection (NWHRD) and is the Training Officer for Northwest Disaster Search Dogs (NDSD) in addition to being a member of WA-TF 1 (FEMA). She is also an evaluator for FEMA.  You can read more about Jo here.

Registration for this seminar is at a reduced rate due to a generous donation from Carpet Liquidators.  Additionally, we will be offering full “working spot” scholarships to two lucky SAR handlers, selected via lottery!
