Big Congratulations!

Apr 25, 2022 | Announcements, K9 & Handler

Congratulations to Janiece Miller & K9 Parker (right) and Candice Church & K9 Mo (left) for successfully passing their Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA)!

The FSA is the first of two tests on the path to becoming a certified Disaster Search and Rescue K9 Team. This assessment takes lots of dedication and hours of training to be able to pass all elements, which include: Obedience (heeling off leash through a crowd, emergency stop at a distance, and a long down-stay with the handler out of sight for 5 minutes); Agility (climbing a ladder, walking a high plank, going through a dark tunnel, crossing a wobbly/uneven surface, crossing a moving plank and doing a teeter); Direction & Control (the dog is sent to platforms that are out at a distance); and of course, a search!

The next step required to achieve this disaster certification is the Certification Evaluation (CE) where the teams perform multiple searches.

These two teams are well on their way and we look forward to their continued success!
